Home to the ancient capital of the Incan empire Cuzco, and their most famous ruins Machu Picchu, Peru has a very rich history that extends far beyond that of the Incas alone, the country is practically littered with ancient ruins. But Peru has more to offer than just ruins, it also has amazing beaches, stunning deserts, picturesque trekking and climbing among their six thousand meter mountains, deep canyons and high altitude plateaus and lakes. I came by bus from Cuenca in Ecuador and then spent a month exploring what is now one of my favourite countries in the world. Getting around Peru is easy, the bus network is extensive or if you are short on time the flights tend to be well priced.
